The Silver Penny

The badge is a copy of the overse (front) of a coin struck in the reign of Edware the Elder (899-925 AD) to commemorate the victory over the Danes who came up the river Ouse to within 3 miles of Before, it bears Edward's name in Saxon. The original coin was found over 100 years agon on an ancient site near Bedford. It is worn with the small cross at the bottom.
