Norfolk

The figure of Britania above a curved scroll inscribed with the word NORFOLK all or.

In 1923 the then Colonel of the Norfolk Regiment gave permissions for the Guides of Nofolk to use Britannia which was the regimental badge, providing that it was not identical, hence the scroll bearing the name of the county. Britannia was originally given in 1707 to the 9th Regiment of Foot (?Norfolk Regiment) by Queen Anne but since that time minor modifications have been made.

Orginally when Frances Stuart (afterwards the Duchess of Richmond) sat for Britannia as the design of the farthing in 1665, she held a spear in her left hand and an olive branch inher right. In 1797 Britannia was produced holding an olive branch in her right hand and a trident in her left. It was not until the reign of George IV that she was provided with a helmet.
