A lozenge gules, six martlets or, three, two and one and in chief two barrulets or.

The six martlets represent the six 'Rapes' or divisions of land in Sussex. They are Hastings, Pevensey, Lewes, Bramber, Chichester and Arundel. The two barrulets couped or represent the rivers Rother and Ouse, marking the easter and wester boundaries respectively, of the county.
