The red rose of Lancashire, the emblem of the Earls and Dukes of Lancashire. The rose first appeared as the Royal badge of Edward I who bore it or, while his brother Edmund Crouchback, by way of difference bore it gules and so passed it to his descendent, the House of Lancaster
